Malayalam star Nivin Pauly, popular for his roles in blockbusters such as Premam and Action Hero Biju, has been booked by Thalayolaparambu police in Kerala. Nivin and director Abrid Shine have been accused of cheating and criminal breach of trust by producer PS Shamnas.
An FIR was registered under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC after Shamnas alleged that Nivin had failed to honor financial commitments related to their collaboration on the movie Mahaveeryar, which released in 2022. According to the complainant Shamnas, Nivin had offered to pay Rs 95 lakh after Mahaveeryar made losses. The actor also promised to make Shamnas a partner in his upcoming project, Action Hero Biju 2, directed by Abrid Shine.
Shamnas alleged that he had invested around Rs 1.90 crore on Action Hero Biju 2, based on Nivin’s promises. The producer further alleged that Nivin and Abrid secretly entered into a Rs 5 crore distribution deal with a Dubai-based company, presenting the film as being under Nivin’s production banner instead of Shamnas’s company, Indian Movie Makers, which registered the movie.
Meanwhile, responding to the allegations, Nivin clarified that the dispute has been under arbitration since June 28, with a gag order in place to maintain confidentiality. Nivin assured his fans that legal action will be pursued in response to Shamnas’ allegations. On the work front, Nivin will next be seen in Sarvam Maya and another film in which he stars alongside Mamitha Baiju.
