The upcoming spy thriller War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, is shaping up to be one of the biggest films in Indian cinema. Set to release on August 14, 2025, the film is directed by Ayan Mukerji and continues the YRF Spy Universe that began with Ek Tha Tiger in 2012.
While the trailer released yesterday has generated strong buzz, new reports about the film’s budget and lead remunerations are now making headlines. According to trade sources from the Hindi belt, War 2 is being made on a massive budget of Rs 400 crore, making it the most expensive film in the YRF Spy Universe so far.
A large part of that budget has gone into actor fees. Jr NTR, making his debut in the YRF Spy Universe, has reportedly been paid Rs 70 crore, which is the highest for any Telugu actor in a Hindi film. Hrithik Roshan, returning to his role from the first War, has charged Rs 50 crore upfront. He also has a profit-sharing deal in place.
Kiara Advani, playing the female lead, is said to have received Rs 15 crore, while Anil Kapoor is being paid Rs 10 crore for his supporting role. Director Ayan Mukerji is said to be getting Rs 30 crore. Together, the main cast and director are drawing close to Rs 150 crore.
The remaining Rs 220 crore is being spent on large-scale production, international action sequences, and top-tier technical work. With so much money riding on both talent and craft, War 2 is not just another release but a major financial move by Yash Raj Films ahead of the Independence Day weekend.
Meanwhile, YRF’s Saiyaara, featuring debutants, is making waves with over Rs 250 crore gross worldwide in its first week.
