Dussehra is one of the most lucrative seasons for Telugu cinema, often packed with big releases competing for audience attention. This year, two major films are heading for a clash. Balakrishna’s Akhanda 2 and Pawan Kalyan’s They Call Him OG are both scheduled to release on September 25. While this sets up a high-profile showdown at the box office, there’s a complication that may affect both films.

On the production front, things are moving as planned. OG has completed its shoot and is in post-production. Akhanda 2 is nearing completion, with just one song left to shoot. The team expects to wrap by the first week of August. Both teams are confident about sticking to the release date.

However, the challenge comes from another film arriving shortly after. Kantara Chapter 1, the prequel to the widely successful Kantara, is set to release on October 2, which also happens to be Vijayadasami. The original film saw massive success in the Telugu states, and the prequel is carrying strong momentum. Its arrival just a week after OG and Akhanda 2 could split audience interest and reduce the second-week hold for both Telugu films.

While a two-film clash is not unusual during festivals, the addition of a third major release in such a tight window raises concerns. Theatre availability, sustained collections and word-of-mouth impact could all be affected.

With all three films aiming for the same festive crowd, the Dussehra season is shaping up to be a tight race. The real test for each film may not be the opening day, but how well they hold over the extended holiday season.
