Jr NTR and Hrithik Roshan’s highly anticipated film War 2 was released worldwide yesterday. There was a buzz around the project as it brought two powerhouse actors from North and South India together. Despite a huge star cast and high anticipation, War 2’s opening day collections failed to surpass those of its predecessor, War.
According to the trade reports, War 2 collected a nett. of around Rs. 52 crore on its first day, which is less than the Rs. 53 crore opening day collections of War. Initially, it was expected that War 2 might surpass the day one earnings of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan (Rs. 57 crore), but it couldn’t.
Expectations for War 2 turned moderate with the poor promotions and promotional content. Also, it faced a huge competition from Coolie, especially in the Telugu states. With already moderate expectations, the film also couldn’t generate a unanimous positive response. As a result, it witnessed a dip in the first day’s collections. Coolie dented War 2’s chances of generating huge revenue in AP and Telangana.
With this response, it remains to be seen how War 2 sustains at the box office and whether it will make its producers reach the shores of the profit zone.
