Bollywood stars and their association with harmful substances like pan masalas need no introduction. Apart from personal consumption, several popular stars ignored public safety and endorsed pan masala and gutka brands and earned hundreds of crores despite widespread criticism.
However, Bollywood action star Akshay Kumar chose to be a tad different. At the Jolly LLB 3 trailer launch event in Kanpur, a journalist asked the actor about the city’s infamous association with gutka. And Akshay promptly replied, saying, “Gutka nahi khana chahiye (One should not consume gutka).”
And when the reporter attempted to stress the point further, Akshay firmly snapped at the interruption, saying, “Interview mera hai ya tumhara? Main bol raha hoon, gutka nahi khana chahiye, that’s it. Next question.” (“Is this my interview or yours? I’m saying one should not consume gutka, that’s it).”
Videos of Akshay’s retort to the journalist and his firm stand against gutka consumption are going viral on social media, sparking discussion not only about tobacco use but also resurrecting memories of Akshay Kumar’s past endorsement controversy.
Usually, movie lovers and netizens troll Bollywood stars who promote pan masalas. However, Akshay stood as a class apart, trolling the overenthusiastic journalist instead.
Jolly LLB 3 is a courtroom drama, with Akshay Kumar reprising his role as Jolly Mishra opposite Arshad Warsi as a rival lawyer. Saurabh Shukla returns as Judge Tripathi. The trailer highlights a fast-paced legal face-off between both the Jollys. The film is set to hit big screens on September 19, 2025.
