Malayalam cinema has seen many successful films this year, and Kalyani Priyadarshan’s Lokah stood out as a major hit, attracting audiences across Kerala and all other parts of India. Film box office success has set new records for Malayalam films.
The film has done exceptionally well at the box office, earning over ₹270 crore worldwide. It crossed Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s L2E: Empuraan to become the all time highest-grossing Malayalam film. In Kerala alone, Lokah crossed the ₹100 crore mark within 24 days of release, making it only the second Malayalam film to achieve this milestone.
There were reports that Lokah would soon appear on OTT platforms. However, Dulquer Salmaan clarified on his Social media that the film will not be released online anytime soon. He wrote, “Lokah isn’t coming to OTT anytime soon. Ignore the fake news and stay tuned for official announcements!” This means the film will continue its theatrical run, during the Dusshera holidays.
Lokah was directed by Dominic Arun and produced by Dulquer Salmaan under Wayfarer Films. Kalyani plays Chandra, a mysterious woman who arrives in Bengaluru and gets involved with a gang involved in organ trafficking. Also stars Naslen, Sandy Master and Arun Kurian in important roles. Tovino Thomas, Dulquer Salmaan and other actors make cameo appearances. Music is by Jakes Bejoy.
