In a move that transcends the traditional movie exhibition, India’s leading multiplex chain, PVR INOX, has launched its first dine-in cinema in Bengaluru. PVR INOX’s new screening model is part of its ambitious vision to transform cinema theaters into a “third space,” where entertainment and dining await patrons.
The newly launched dine-in cinema allows groups of audiences to book an entire dining space for a never-before movie-watching experience. The company also aims to offer a unique range of cinema-inspired culinary experiences through its in-house brands. PVR INOX’s dynamic pricing model for dine-in experiences will vary based on events and content, with current rates starting at Rs 490 for a two-seater table and Rs 990 for a four-seater.
After Bengaluru, PVR INOX plans to launch four to five dine-in cinemas by FY27 at a cost of Rs 3 crore per cinema. These dine-in cinemas will also host live shows, concerts, and corporate events. This diversification of services will help the company to monetize cinema spaces during lean periods. The company has also ventured into outdoor catering, corporate events, and live entertainment, including comedy shows, concerts, and mall-based food courts.
PVR INOX continues to report significant growth in its food and beverage (F&B) sales, the company’s major revenue driver. PVR INOX’s FY24 annual report indicates a food and beverage revenue surge of 21% to Rs 1,958.40 crore, surpassing the 19 percent growth in the revenue generated from ticket sales.
