Remaking South Indian films in Hindi has been common, and many have become big hits over the years. While not all remakes succeed, there is still strong demand for Hindi versions of popular Telugu films. The latest Telugu hit to get this treatment is Sankranthiki Vasthunam.

The film, released in January, was directed by Anil Ravipudi and stars Venkatesh. It became a major hit and set a record for a Telugu film that wasn’t dubbed in other languages. With around ₹280 crore at the box office, it was also the highest-grossing Telugu film of the year till September.

Now, the film is being remade in Hindi. The story is described as a triangular crime entertainer, focusing on a man, his ex-girlfriend, and his wife. Akshay Kumar will play the lead role, originally played by Venkatesh.

Director Anees Bazmee, known for comedy films like Welcome and Bhool Bhulaiyaa series, will direct the remake. He has also directed the Hindi remake of the Telugu film Ready with Salman Khan.

Dil Raju, who produced the original film with Shirish under Sri Venkateswara Creations, will also produce the Hindi remake. Discussions are ongoing to finalize the two female leads, along with other cast and crew members.

Interestingly, Anil Ravipudi’s National Award-winning film Bhagavanth Kesari is also being loosely remade in Tamil. Thalapathy Vijay will star in the Tamil version titled Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth.

The original Sankranthiki Vasthunnam starred Venkatesh, Meenakshi Chaudhary, and Aishwarya Rajesh. It was written and directed by Anil Ravipudi, produced by Dil Raju and Shirish, and had music composed by Bheems Ceciroleo.
