Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui played the lead roles in the recent horror comedy Thamma. It is the fifth film from the Maddock Horror comedy franchise. However, the film’s opening revenue is slightly not upto the expectations. Even then, it is raising a hint that this verdict might favor Kantara: Chapter 1, which did amazingly well in the North circuit.
Getting into the deets, Thamma emerged as the third-highest opener for Maddock Films after Stree 2 and Chhaava. With a gross of 25 Cr rupees, it fell short of expectations. However, the film is ranked as the second-highest opener in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe after Stree2. Not just that, Thamma is the biggest opener for Ayushmann Khurrana, surpassing the opening day numbers of Dream Girl 2 [₹ 10.69 cr] by a huge margin.
Now, the start is not bad but decent and hence, the film needs to be given a week’s time to understand its full potential. In this scenario, the disadvantage could be that the families are inclining towards Kantara: Chapter 1. Considering the weekdays, the collections from today until Friday will be less. Moreover, Kantara witnessed 50% occupancy in the Hindi belt, where Thamma had only 40 percent occupancy, which could be a matter of concern.
As of today, the public verdict on the release day is not entirely unanimous, but horror films take time to pick up. As the word of mouth grows, the footfalls also increase. Having said that, Thamma had a decent start and let us see how it performs towards this weekend.
