This year’s biggest blockbuster, Kantara Chapter: 1, is continuing its dream run at the box office. Despite getting released on OTT, the film is still making huge sales in theatres, as per the trends suggested by the online ticketing platform.
As per reports, Kantara is doing significantly well in theatres even after four weeks of its release. It is being predicted that most of these collections are coming from North India, as the Hindi version will premiere on OTT only after 56 days of its release.
As of now, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam versions of the film are out on Amazon Prime Video, and the Hindi version will premiere on Netflix later this month.
Neither Diwali nor any other October releases managed to stop Kantara’s dominance at the box office, and thus, the film is still doing well in theatres. Many people on social media felt that if the OTT release was delayed, it would have had a longer run in theatres.
For now, it remains to be seen whether filmmakers will recognize that strong content can still draw audiences to theatres and start opting for longer OTT release windows instead of the current four-week gap.
