Once averse to foray into South Cinema, Bollywood stars are now very much inclined and eager to expand their profile beyond North India. Many top tier Hindi artists are readily willing to act in Telugu films due to the growing recognition for Tollywood and the changing box office dynamics. Already some prominent actors followed this strategy and it worked for them.
Top league B-Town actress Sonakshi Sinha also hoped to make an impactful debut in Telugu with supernatural thriller Jatadhara which stars Telugu actor Sudheer Babu in the lead role. She played a dark and intense mythological character as Dhanapisachini( Goddess of greed) in this film which hit the screens on Friday last week. Going by the teasers and trailers, many expected that she has got a meaty role in the film, which helps her to establish as a strong contender for such author backed characters in future.
Unfortunately, the film tanked heavily at the box office and resulted in a huge embarrassment for the whole team. Neither the script nor the artists performances received any appreciation from moviegoers. Moreover, it drew severe backlash from critics. The box office numbers are very shocking due to the adverse reviews and poor word of mouth.
Sonakshi’s character and performance hardly received any attention as the overall outcome did not have a high moments. What was supposed to be a dream debut for the Dabangg beauty turned out to be an absolute nightmare and forgettable outing in Telugu. She hoped for significant offers in Tollywood after the release of this film. Sadly, Jatadhara dashed all her hopes.
