The Andhra Pradesh liquor scam is nearing its climax with several high-profile arrests made so far. The most significant of these is the arrest of MP Mithun Reddy, who is currently lodged in Rajahmundry Central Jail.
In a surprising turn, former Excise Minister and Deputy Chief Minister K. Narayana Swamy has made a series of unexpected comments during the ongoing investigation.
Narayana Swamy was scheduled to appear before the SIT for questioning on Monday. However, he evaded the summons citing medical reasons. In response, the SIT dispatched an inspector to his residence in Tirupati and conducted a preliminary investigation via video conference.
During the interaction, Narayana Swamy reportedly said, “I had no clue about the liquor scam. All I was told was that liquor consumption would decrease if the government fully controlled the liquor outlets. That’s all I knew about the policy.”
When questioned about Raj Kasireddy, the alleged kingpin of the scam, Narayana Swamy stated, “I don’t even know who this person is. I have never met him before.”
The fact that a former Excise Minister claims to have had no knowledge of the liquor policy or the key people involved is both shocking and revealing. It perhaps reflects the high level of secrecy maintained during the previous administration’s tenure.
