The Pulivendula defeat has turned into a big embarrassment for the YCP, and much of the blame is being pointed at Avinash Reddy. Party insiders say there were two main reasons behind this setback.
Firstly, Avinash tried to run the entire campaign on his own. Instead of working with other local leaders and building a team effort, he wanted the victory to look like his personal achievement. Even though Jagan reportedly advised him to take everyone along, including senior leaders like Anjad Basha, Avinash ignored this and moved forward with his own plans. That gamble badly backfired.
Secondly, he took unilateral decisions without proper planning or assessment of the opponent’s strengths. Elections are not won by one-man shows, and his approach ended up weakening the party’s position. The result was not just a defeat but a humiliating loss where even the deposit could not be saved.
Adding to this, Avinash failed to generate sympathy for the party candidate Hemanth Reddy, who entered the contest after his father’s sudden death. Normally, such circumstances bring natural emotional support, but Avinash could not use it to the party’s advantage. Instead, he kept stressing on failed welfare promises like the Super Six scheme, which did not connect with the people.
In the end, Avinash failed on both fronts. Despite claiming that he would prove his strength when given responsibility, his performance in Pulivendula has left the party in shock. Even Jagan himself is said to be deeply worried about how badly things went wrong in what was once their strongest bastion.
