The long-debated Tirumala Pink Diamond controversy has finally been put to rest. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), led by director Muniratnam Reddy, clarified that there was never a pink diamond in the necklace offered by the Mysore Maharaja to Lord Venkateswara.
According to palace records and after consulting Mysore Maharani Pramoda Devi, it was confirmed that the ornament contained only rubies and other stones, not a pink diamond. The necklace was originally made in Delhi for ₹8,500, and nowhere in the records is a diamond mentioned.
Back in 2018, former chief priest Ramana Deekshitulu alleged that a rare pink diamond worth crores was missing and had been secretly sold abroad. This claim created a huge uproar among devotees. YCP used this against the then ruling TDP government. However, now ASI’s investigation found the allegation to be baseless.
The report further mentioned that during Garuda Seva in 2001, the ruby in the necklace was damaged by coins thrown by devotees, and the broken pieces were officially recorded.
With this evidence, Muniratnam Reddy stated that spreading false propaganda about temple ornaments is unacceptable and warned that those who do so will face consequences.
This clarification has finally closed the chapter on the so-called Tirumala Pink Diamond mystery.
