AP CM Chandrababu Naidu expressed concern over the increasing number of cesarean section operations in Andhra Pradesh, accounting to 56.62 per cent of all births in the country. It is the greediness of the doctors that is encouraging the practice. The state tops the country in C-section procedures, while doctor should practice safe delivery, he lamented.

Of this, 90 per cent of the cesarean section (C-Section) operations are occurring in private hospitals. Over 56.62 per cent cesarean deliveries, this is a dangerous trend, he said. These doctors are encouraging caesarean operations for money.

Naidu raised the issue in the Assembly. He tasked Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav to inform the doctors that the government does not approve this trend and directed him to focus on enabling safe deliveries from now on. Over 4.2 per cent of funds under Dr NTR Vaidya Seva Trust are also being spent onC-Section procedures.

Deputy Speaker K Raghurama Krishna Raju echoed Naidu’s concern and said that delivery dates are being fixed for pregnant women one month in advance. Some families are also going for auspicious muhurats instead of allowing the pregnancy to take its own natural course, Raju said.

In response, the CM said that it is a wrong practice. The natural body given by God should not undergo surgery unless it is really needed, Naidu pointed out.

The CM’s concern over pregnant women’s health shows he is a real leader, envisioning the comprehensive development of the state. Development does not confine to buildings and factories, health and wellbeing also play a prominent role in the happiness index of the citizens. Naidu showed his commitment to the welfare of the women by tasking the health minister to ensure that doctors practiced normal deliveries.
