YSR Congress party MP Mithun Reddy is the kingpin in the multi-crore liquor scandal as per the chargesheet filed by the Special Investigation Team of Andhra Pradesh CID. He was arraigned as Accused No. 4 in the scam for playing an instrumental role from tinkering the liquor policy to routing the kickbacks earned from it for election campaign in 2024. He was arrested on July 21st with firm evidence.
After serving behind the bars for ten weeks, the Rajampeta MP finally secured conditional bail from the ACB Court last week and released from the jail. In no time, he started playing the victim card by making false allegations against the ruling government. However, SIT authorities are reportedly confident of getting his bail cancelled due to his prominent role in orchestrating the scam. A petition has been filed in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh by additional SP of CID on Friday. The petition will be heard by Justice Venkata Jyotirmayi Pratap on Monday.
In its petition, SIT has maintained that there are several legal errors in the orders of ACB Court which granted bail to the tainted MP. It further objected that Mithun Reddy has intentionally not disclosed the details of his criminal history to the court and requested to take a serious note of the irregularities in granting the bail. The SIT has also brought to the notice of the High Court how the ACB Court has granted bail just ten days after it struck down the petition of Mithun Reddy.
The ACB Court granted him conditional bail on September 29th. The SIT argued in its petition that the reasons furnished by the ACB Court are legally flawed and sought to set aside the orders immediately.
With this development, political circles are waiting for the response of the High Court. Will the High Court give a shock to Mithun Reddy who just heaved a sigh of relief after spending in jail for several days ? It will be a big setback for both Mithun Reddy and the YSRCP if the High Court cancels his bail.
