The much-anticipated Jubilee Hills by-election is scheduled for November 11, and the result will be announced on November 14. Soon after this announcement by the Election Commission, the major political parties in Telangana began preparing the ground for the upcoming election.
Interestingly, significant developments are also unfolding in Andhra Pradesh. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has reportedly called for a meeting with Telangana TDP leaders this evening.
The main objective of this meeting is to discuss the Jubilee Hills by-election and finalize the party’s action plan.
Given that Chandrababu had already stated his intention to revive the TDP in Telangana and actively participate in local elections, this Jubilee Hills election couldn’t have come at a better time.
Reportedly, Chandrababu will discuss the possibility of TDP contesting this constituency with the Telangana unit later today.
TDP has historically been a formidable force in Telangana, and it’s worth noting that the late Jubilee Hills MLA, Maganti Gopinath, was himself a former TDP leader. So, if Chandrababu and the Telangana leadership decide to field a candidate, the contest could become quite interesting.
However, it’s also important to note that TDP’s ally in Andhra Pradesh, the BJP, is already contesting this seat. It remains to be seen whether TDP will field its own candidate or extend support to the NDA candidate.
More clarity is expected to emerge after the Chief Minister’s meeting with the Telangana leadership later today. Regardless, the very prospect of TDP re-entering Telangana politics through the Jubilee Hills by-election, after having skipped the recent general election, marks a significant political development in the Telugu states.
