Andhra Pradesh was hit by one of the worst cyclones in recent times in the form of Montha Cyclone this week. While the entire top leadership of the NDA government, including CM were on the job overseeing rehab and rescue operations, former CM Jagan was nowhere to be seen in AP as he stayed back in the Bengaluru Palace.
Jagan came to Andhra Pradesh only after the cyclonic situation diluted and even then, he confided the trip to just a couple of days. He did not even bother to get on the ground and interact with the public to assess the post calamity damage.
But on the other hand, we have Jagan’s sister and the current president of Andhra Pradesh, Congress Sharmila, who did something that even Jagan didn’t.
Earlier today, Sharmila arrived at the cyclone affected areas and interacted with the farmers who lost their crop produce due to the Montha cyclone. After assessing the situation, she demanded the government to provide assistance and support on priority.
A few political analysts are committing that Sharmila at least had the courtesy to come to Andhra Pradesh and get on the ground to be with the public after the natural disaster. She stood up to her responsibility despite not holding a position of power.
But on the contrary, former CM Jagan, who frequently asks the government for opposition leader status didn’t bother to visit the affected areas and confined his presence in AP to a video conference with YCP leaders. Social media users are making fun of the scenario by saying Sharmila is doing a better job in opposition than Jagan.
It is the unwritten responsibility of the designated opposition leader to be with the public during these times. But Jagan doesn’t appear to be fazed by this as he quickly returned to Bengaluru yesterday itself.
