Congress party led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in Telangana asserted dominance by winning the prestigious bypoll to Jubilee Hills, a constituency which the party lost to BRS in the 2023 assembly elections. The victory of Naveen Yadav in seen as sign of voter validation on the Congress government’s two year tenure in power.
The resounding mandate has not only boosted the confidence of Congress leaders and supporters ahead of local body polls but also consolidated its base in the Greater Hyderabad segment where the party failed to secure even a single MLA seat during the regular polls. It has clinched both Secunderabad Cantonment and Jubilee Hills seats due to by-polls. Now, the Congress high command is aiming to carry the winning momentum into the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Elections which are likely to take place after February next year.
Meanwhile, there are reports doing rounds in the political circles of Telangana and the internal sources of Congress party that Jubilee Hills MLA Naveen Yadav is likely to be lavished with a significant post in Revanth’s government. As per these murmurs, Naveen Yadav may be elevated to a cabinet berth or any other notable position within the party. If not a cabinet berth, Naveen might be given a position equivalent to a Whip.
As Naveen Yadav belongs to BC community, Revanth Reddy and Congress party believe that his ascension to a significant position will help them gain political mileage ahead of the GHMC elections and also increase the party’s image within the Hyderabad segment. Recently, Minority leader Mohammad Azharuddin was inducted into the cabinet. This move is seen as an attempt to attract Muslim voters in the Jubilee Hills election.
If this news turns out to be true, Naveen Yadav should consider himself very lucky because he joined the Congress party just two years ago and is now set to play prominent role after winning the high-stakes battle.
