The Congress government in Telangana imposed a new G O that would mandate 42% reservation for the BC community in the upcoming local body election. However, this was categorically struck down by the Telangana High Court, as they said it is against the constitution to allocate such reservations.
However, the Congress party appears to be fully committed to this 42% reservation and they are progressing with this system, albeit with a different game-plan.
Cabinet minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy communicated that Congress has collectively decided to give 42% reservation to the BC community in the upcoming Sarpanch election.
He confirmed that only the Sarpanch election are going to be held on priority now while the MPTC and ZPTC election will be held at point based on the court order.
Coming back to the Sarpanch election, it is confirmed that the Congress party will internally mandate 42% reservation for the BC community. This essentially means that Congress will be strengthening 42% BC candidates in the upcoming Sarpanch election. This is being done at an internal capacity and doesn’t apply to other parties.
It appears that Congress is very firm on the BC reservation quota and are going to great lengths to make it happen.
