Under the NDA government, not only metro cities but also tier two cities like Kurnool and Rajahmundry are seeing major infrastructure upgrades. The government has now announced that a new Outer Ring Road will be developed around Rajahmundry. This road will support planned urban growth and also strengthen the connectivity between the Vizag to Chennai industrial corridor.
Urban Minister Narayana, in a review meeting with RUDA and district collectors, said that the ORR will allow people to travel around Rajahmundry without entering the busy inner city roads. Even though the new Godavari fourth bridge at the Kovvuru bypass has opened as part of the Nallajerla route, traffic jams continue on the main stretches.
Areas like Rajanagaram, Diwancheruvu, Dowleswaram and Kadiyam are still facing heavy congestion. Because of this, the new bridge is taking most of the traffic load as people prefer it for faster travel. The new ORR is planned as a large triangular route around the city, helping vehicles move smoothly from one side to the other.
The government has allocated a budget of seven thousand crore rupees for this project. Officials are preparing a detailed project report and studying the most suitable alignment for the road. Once the report is completed, land acquisition will begin. The minister assured that farmers and landowners will receive fair compensation and that the entire process will be transparent.
Residents of Rajahmundry are welcoming the decision. With the city growing rapidly and vehicle numbers increasing, the need for an outer ring road has become clear. The ORR will reduce travel time, cut down pollution inside the city and make long distance travel easier for trucks and buses.
According to Minister Narayana, the government is planning several major projects for the East Godavari region. The Rajahmundry ORR is one of the key developments that will support future growth. It will later be expanded to connect Rajahmundry and Kakinada with better roads and alternative routes.
Once completed, the city will gain stronger urban infrastructure and a major upgrade that can attract new industries and investments. It will also improve logistical movement to the two major nearby ports at Kakinada and Visakhapatnam.
